Hello All,
Here I want to add some tutorial about working with Lyx.
In this Article I'm going to post a kind of tutorial about importing your bibliography data base from a online reference management application such as RefWorks or Mendely to your Latex editor like Lyx.
Before I begin this tutorial, I want to admire the programers of Lyx for their wonderful job. this software is one the most easy to learn and easiest to use software I've ever worked with.
Having said that, I thought this toturial could be more effective if I give a Lyx and Pdf file where I explained all the steps there.
I found these information through browsing several pages and blogs and gathered them in one Lyx (and PDF) file for you.

How to import your References from RefWorks to Lyx

BECAUSE, I ADD sample BOOK REFERENCE FILE (bib) ON MY COMPUTER WITH MY FILE ADDRESS, WHICH IS PROBABLY NOT SIMILAR TO YOURS. YOU NEED TO ADD BOOK BIB SAMPLE FILE IN YOUR LYX BIBLIOGRAPHY ADD WINDOW, SO LYX VERSION WORK PROPERLY. BUT THE IMAGAES ARE BLANK THERE. MY APPOLOGY. YOU MAY DELETE THE FLOATING IUMAGE BOX TO RENDER LYX FILE TO PDF.”
IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY YOU CAN'T SEE ANY OF YOUR CITATION, AFTER YOU ADD YOUR REFERENCE DATA BASE DO THESE TWO POSSIBLE MODIFICATIONS INTO YOUR EXPORTED .BIB FILE (PROBABLY FROM RefWorks or Mendely)
1. Your file doesn't have /endinput at the end of file, If it's the case open your .bib file with a text editor or Lyx associated software and add this command line at the end.
2. Your file has both article references and Book references at the end. If that's the case. either separately export your article and books and mics references from Refworks or Mendely in different .bib files or just Cut those references out from your .bib file manually and put them in separate .bib file.
1 Step by Step tutorial
1.1 feeding Data base
So as I said, to start importing your references you need two make two different .bib file, one for articles(and all other types except books or mics), and one for your books or mics.
Then
1.Open the Lyx program and go to your document where you wanna add the citation in.
2.Go to Insert --> List/TOC --> BibTex bibliography ...
3.click on Add bottom to feed your bib file into you document Data base. under the Add database bibliography window click on Brows and select your bib file(e.g. your bib file which was contain just the articles). then select add and then OK. in this stage a gray rectangular shape will be added in your document which I shown in fig1.1.
4. Now click on the Box, a window will appear which is the same window when you opened on stage 2. here you can add your second bib file which includes your book references by repeating steps 2 and 3.
5.Now in the Lyx menu es , select Document --> settings --> (Left vertical bar) Biblography and change the setting as it's shown in fig1.2.
Remember if you want to CITE each references in your document by a number inside brackets (which I think is more common) you have to Choose Numerical in Natbib Style. otherwise a brief references indicator will be added with your citation.
Note:YOUR REFERENCES WILL BE SHOWN BELOW THE GRAY BIBLIOGRAPHY BOX.
1.2 Adding Citations
Now you feed your references into Lyx engine. in this step you can use ones you want by citing them inside your document.
Remember if you site three references out of 100000 references in your database, in the Reference part of your final compiled document, you will see just those three cited references.
To site a reference, go to the places that you want, and then, either select Citation... from Insert menu or click on Insert Citation Icon (the orange open pages right bellow the tweezers sign).
Let say I want to cite one of your references hereMuntean (#Munt:93). window shown in fig1.3 will appear.
as you can see you can add your reference by selecting it from the right panel and then clicking on add bottom, or you can find your reference by typing the hot keys in the find field shown in the fig.1.3.
in the Formating sub-section you can change the Citation style as you want. for instance I used Author Name [reference number]. if you want to have just reference number in the bracket as your citation style, you have to choose [#ID].
Press OK and you're Done!
you need to press the adobe sign (the one without cycling arrow) and see the final compiled results.
if you got any errors or warning then you might forgot to change your document Class.
In the Lyx Menu select Document--> settings... and Document class, choose Article in this case.(this class is working for me right now). You can Also Change that to see different final version formats of your paper.
2 If you can't separate the book references at RefWorks
If you don't have that option or if you still can't see anything in the Citation window don't worry.
I modified your bib files that you gave me and emailed to you. If you need to know how you can fix them, do as follow.
1. export your references with RefWorks, exactly in a same way that you did that before.
2. Open the Bib file and go to the end of that.
3. add /endinput at the end of file(in case of absent)
4. cut all @book and @mics references .
5.save as the file as .bib by clicking on File menu and choosing Save as.. and changing the type of file as bib file.(see fig2.2) this is your just article references.
6. Again open the first bib file and in this time leave the selected lines and remove all @article references. this would be your book references.
